What Is Poople?
Poople is a daily word ladder puzzle. Each day, you get a new 4-letter starting word. Your job is to turn it into the target word POOP by changing exactly one letter at each step. Every intermediate word you form must be a valid English word, and the fewer steps you take to reach POOP, the better your score.
- The concept is simple — change one letter, make a new word, repeat until you hit POOP.
- But in practice, finding the shortest path tests your vocabulary, your ability to spot letter patterns, and your willingness to start the ladder over when a promising path dead-ends.

How to Play Poople
- You see today's 4-letter starting word at the top of the board.
- Type a new 4-letter word that differs from the current word by exactly one letter.
- Keep changing one letter at a time until you reach POOP.

- The game only accepts real dictionary words — anything else is rejected and never reaches the ladder.
- Coral tile — this letter already sits in its final POOP position. A tile that lights up is a position you no longer have to change.
- Every word you submit is locked in — there is no undo, so a dead end means starting the ladder over with Restart.
If you get stuck, try working backward: think of 4-letter words that are one letter away from POOP (like COOP, HOOP, LOOP, POOL, POOR, PROP, PLOP, BOOP, POOF), then work out how to reach one of those from your current position. Experienced Poople players use a few mental shortcuts to find shorter paths. Here are strategies that reliably cut your step count:

What does "par" mean?
Par is the shortest possible path — the minimum number of steps needed to go from the starting word to POOP. Each puzzle's par is the length of the shortest route between that day's starting word and POOP, computed over the game dictionary. Finishing in par means you found an optimal route and earns a perfect score.
Are all words in the dictionary real?
Yes. Every valid guess must be a real 4-letter English word. The game uses a fixed 4-letter English dictionary. It leaves out obscure abbreviations and proper nouns, but it is not filtered for offensive language, so some rude words are legal guesses. If a word is rejected, it means it is not in the game's dictionary — try a different letter.
Why POOP?
POOP was chosen as the target word because it uses only three distinct letters (P and two O's), which creates interesting constraints: you often need to rearrange letters rather than just swapping them out. The repeated O forces you to think about position, not just substitution — an O in the wrong slot may still be an O, but it has to move to the right place before you can finish. This also makes POOP a surprisingly tricky word to reach from certain starting words, which keeps the daily puzzle interesting even for experienced players.
